The summer is almost over and school is right around the corner. What a perfect time to bring the community together with a mix of artists performances, vendors, a place for shooting hoops and even an area for the kids to go play. What I am describing is the Soul School Festival 2017; an outside concert presented by state rep Jordan Harris in the Brotherly Love City of Philadelphia. State Rep. Jordan Harris, hosted the fifth annual Soul School Festival that began at noon Saturday, Aug. 12 at Chew Playground, 19th and Washington Ave. This was an opportunity to hear some of the issues that are being faced and ways to resolve them. The free festival featured bounce houses, a basketball tournament, face painting, and live entertainment. Attendees also were able to receive free health screenings and learned more about registering to vote. Let’s call it a mix of state services and entertainment all in one event!
Music has a thing about it that brings people together no matter of age, race or status. Classic artists such as Biz Markie, Dj Kool, Total, Chill Moody, Marsha Ambrosius and more performed at this free festival in South Philly. Singing along to music they grew up to, mixing the old school with a new school at this Soul school festival and REVIVE had to be there!
REVIVE was alive and in full effect with P.O.C. having the chance to interview some of the artists. Interviewing state rep Jordan Harris and some artists who performed such as Marsha Ambrosius, Total and Biz Markie was the highlight of the night! Vibing with 2 of 3 original members of the R&B group Total, getting to know Marsha as a new mommy in the city where her career all started! Leave it up to P.O.C. to get the info the audience wants to know.
