On March 28, 2026, the Philadelphia Tenants Union hosted its Second Annual Philadelphia Tenant Conference, bringing together residents, organizers, and housing advocates for a powerful day of education, strategy, and community-building. Held at the Asian Arts Initiative, located at 1219 Vine Street, the free event was open to the public and centered on one urgent message, which is fair and affordable housing for all.
From the start, the conference set the tone as a coalition driven space focused on solutions. The day opened with networking and conversation, on housing and social justice led by organizations and individuals across the city, emphasizing the importance of building sustainable tenant committees that can last beyond one campaign or crisis. Attendees discussed how long-term organizing is essential to securing safe, fair, and stable housing in Philadelphia.
The conference was rooted in real-life experiences. Participants highlighted how many residents are forced to spend 30% or more of their income to keep a roof over their heads, often while dealing with unsafe living conditions, rising rents, or landlord neglect. The conference also made space for the realities of those navigating public assistance, disability support, senior housing, federal housing subsidies through PHA, and the challenges faced by unhoused Philadelphians. The message was clear housing justice must include everyone!
To remove barriers to participation, the conference provided free lunch and free daycare, ensuring families could attend and engage fully.
One of the most impactful portions of the day included neighborhood and zip code based breakout sessions. Residents teamed up block by block to discuss shared concerns, identify local goals, and map out next steps for organizing within their communities. These sessions emphasized that sustainable change begins locally, as neighbors build relationships, organize collectively, and learn to hold policymakers and elected officials accountable.
REVIVE Media was honored to serve as a media sponsor for the conference. We spoke directly with residents, asking: “What does affordable housing mean to you?” We also asked attendees why they chose to attend the Second Annual Philadelphia Tenant Conference, and their answers reflected urgency, hope, and a shared commitment to collective action.
Hear directly from residents and stay connected as we continue expanding this media push to advocate for housing justice across Philadelphia.
