Kristal Bush Discusses Cannabis Policy, Sustainability, and Environmental Justice for Black Communities

YouTube Poster

Today, we spoke with Kristal Bush, Lead Advisor for Black Cannabis Week, about the growing intersection of cannabis policy and environmental justice. Bush highlighted how the cannabis industry can be a powerful tool in addressing historic inequities, particularly in Black communities disproportionately impacted by criminalization and environmental harm.

Bush emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in cannabis cultivation, distribution, and access. She advocated for policies that support the fair and equitable treatment of Black growers and entrepreneurs and prioritize environmental sustainability.

Additionally, Bush stressed the need for cannabis regulations that directly benefit Black communities. By aligning cannabis policy with broader environmental justice goals, there’s an opportunity to ensure that historically marginalized communities are included in the growing industry. This includes providing pathways to ownership and job opportunities and addressing the long-term environmental impacts of cannabis cultivation.
